Teach Abroad Opportunities

Shoreline Community College values international teaching as an important component of our college’s mission to prepare a more informed and effective global citizenry.

Teach abroad opportunities are available through three different initiatives. See Chart for an overview of these options.

1.  International Programs Advisory Committee (IPAC)

International Programs facilitates credit-bearing international teach-abroad opportunities for SCC faculty in coordination with the International Programs Advisory Committee (IPAC).  International Programs provides program funding to faculty and eligible staff to develop and implement short-term three/four week international summer institutes. Program recipients work collaboratively with International Programs staff to coordinate program development and student recruitment.  Proposals are due in February each year.

2. Self –Support Study Abroad

Study abroad programs may also be approved as a self-support program.   Applications for self-support study abroad are due to your Division Dean by June 1 of the year preceding the proposed program departure.  Applicants will be screened through a formal interview process with representatives from International Programs and Dean Team

3. Washington State Community College Consortium for Study Abroad (WCCCSA)

In association with the Washington State Community College Consortium for Study Abroad (WCCCSA), SCC faculty may apply to teach abroad in pre-existing Washington State affiliated quarter-programs typically offered in London, Spain, Italy, Costa Rica, or South Africa.  WCCCSA (Washington Community College Consortium for Study Abroad) provides quality Study Abroad programs for 2-year college students. There are currently 15 colleges in the consortium from across the state of Washington.  WCCCSA is committed to offering a variety of affordable, credit bearing study abroad programs in geographically diverse sites. The programs are designed to support the first time traveler, emphasize academic and cultural learning, and strive to prepare students for their role in a global society.  Per SCC’s teach abroad policy, faculty must have been employed at SCC for a minimum of six cumulative quarters in the past three calendar years prior to application.
